With regard to oiroulating water, purity is not, of

course, of great importance, so long as there is sufficient

immunity from mud and debris. If the source of mupply for

this purpose is a well, the provision of a cooling lodge will have to be considered and trouble with mud or debris

would be entirely avoided. If, on the other hand, a nita

is found in the neighbourhood of a lake, river, danal or on an arm of the sea, the necessity for the provision of a cooling lodge may be avoided, but the necessity for

proviling straining apparatus becomes a matter for consider-

ation. In this case also the question of levels and the

distance the water would have to be pumped should be fully

reported.

In considering the whole question, it should be

remembered that continuity of supply is of greater

importance than reduction in the cost of operation. The possibility of the adoption of internal combustion engines, for which, of course, a cooling water circulation system

would be requirad, should always be kept in mind.

(11) Unless the use of internal combustion

ongines is adopted, the use of coal, wood or oil fuel

requires to be considered in the case of the site,

information as regards the nearest depot, facilities for transporting the fuel from that depot to the boiler house

and the cost of the fuel innluding such transport, should

be obtained. The extent to which it will be necessary to

store fuel on the site is an important point, and one

which should be discussed fully with the local authorities

from the point of view of strategiḥal requirements.
